GS3 – Dismantling the Stigma of Substance Use Disorder through Research and Lived Experience
This presentation seeks to bring awareness and combat stigma prevalent in the care for birthing persons with substance use disorders (SUD). Panel experts will provide an update on the latest evidence related to caring for this patient population including ways stigma acts as a barrier to optimal care and practical approaches to reduce social and structural stigma. In addition, you will hear the inspiring story of a birth mother that has successfully beat the odds and is now helping other mothers on their recovery journey. Finally, you will hear about the journey of one foster mom as she hopes to inspire you to consider the possibilities of becoming a foster parent or helping these families in crisis beyond the hospital admission.
